James Fleming is a Partner and Chair of the Life Sciences Practice at Omnus Law, with over 20 years of experience in intellectual property law, specializing in patent prosecution, strategic portfolio development, and global IP protection. He advises innovators, research teams, and companies on securing and commercializing cutting-edge technologies within biotechnology, life sciences, pharmaceuticals, and medical devices.

James’ legal career is built on a foundation of deep technical fluency anchored in advanced scientific training and prior experience as a scientist in both academic and industrial laboratories. He has drafted and prosecuted hundreds of domestic and international patent applications, conducted prior art and freedom-to-operate analyses, and provided competitive landscape assessments to help clients anticipate and mitigate IP risk.

James possesses particular expertise in international IP matters, including serving as counsel for a Singapore-based law firm, where he managed global portfolios and worked directly with international clients seeking cross-border protection strategies. Known for his meticulous approach, clear communication, and strategic mindset, James partners closely with clients to protect innovation throughout every stage of the patent lifecycle, providing structured, forward-looking guidance to help both startups and established enterprises develop strong, defensible, and commercially meaningful IP portfolios.

  • Served as part of successful litigation teams for clients including Microsoft, Engine, and IDEC, supporting discovery, damages analysis, and case strategy

  • Advised more than 350 companies at Entralta, assisting multiple clients through IPOs and high-value fundraising events
