Issue Spotting Topics
Cybersecurity Tip – Paranoia Will Secure You
Firewalls, anti-virus software, scheduled password changes, software updates, email filtering, frequent backups, encrypted communications, and even air-gapped networks may give you confidence that your systems are fully secure — but think again. The weakest link in any system remains people. While training can help mitigate risks, it’s essential to have a response plan in place for when—not if—your system is breached or compromised.

Watch for Data Protection and Privacy Issues in Your Contractual Commitments
Thorough due diligence before entering into contracts should include careful examination of the counterparties’ data protection and privacy frameworks. A comprehensive review of data collection methodologies, storage protocols, and sourcing practices is essential to mitigate potential regulatory exposure. Additionally, be sure to examine any contractual clauses that restrict how data can be used, as these limitations could impact your operations.

No Matter How Good AI Tools Become, Attorneys Still Know Best
For the legal profession, attorneys have finally accepted the fact that AI is definitely here to stay, and will eventually touch almost every aspect of the legal system. However, lawyers are beginning to wonder if these technological advances will eventually eliminate their job. In a recent article, Future of Professionals Report stated that AI could free up 4 hours of a lawyer’s time per week.
As a word of caution, no matter how smart the AI tools become, lawyers will still need to review the output rigorously and meticulously. Many legal professionals have expressed concerns with the accuracy of the contracts and briefs generated by AI tools. Moreover, some AI output can clearly contradict the critical judgment of a trained lawyer, raising ethical and other concerns. So, while the AI tools are fast and efficient, for now and the foreseeable future, attorneys still know best!
